Triston Casas Won't Rejoin Red Sox On Thursday
4 months agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said on Wednesday that "as of now," first baseman Triston Casas (ribs) won't come off the 60-day injured list to rejoin the team on Thursday for the start of a series against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Casas has been out since late April due to cartilage damage in his left rib cage, but the 24-year-old left-handed slugger is on the cusp of his return to the big-league roster and has gone 8-for-30 in eight minor-league rehab games for Triple-A Worcester. There's no reason why Casas should be floating around on the waiver wire. The former 26th overall pick in 2018 hit 24 home runs and drove in 65 while posting an .856 OPS in 132 games in his first full big-league season for the BoSox in 2023. He will return as the team's starting first baseman when he's ready.
