Triston Casas Officially Makes Opening Day Roster
2 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora met with first baseman Triston Casas to tell him that he has made the Opening Day roster. There was never really much doubt that Casas wouldn't break camp with the big-league team this year, but now it's official. He has impressed in Grapefruit League play by hitting .360 (18-for-50) with five doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and 11 runs scored in 17 games played. Casas played in 27 games last year in his MLB debut and hit just .197 (15-for-76) with five home runs, 12 RBI and 23 strikeouts in 95 plate appearances. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter has some intriguing raw power that should play well at Fenway Park, but he also strikes out a lot, so there will be growing pains in his first full major-league season.
