Trey Sermon Buried On San Fran's Depth Chart
3 years agoWith San Francisco 49ers running back JaMycal Hasty (ankle) still dealing with a serious ankle injury and Elijah Mitchell dealing with a broken finger, it could lead to rookie Trey Sermon's first snaps since Oct. 10. The 49ers had 40-plus carries for the fifth time under head coach Kyle Shanahan since 2017, but it was the first time only two tailbacks were used. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who had five carries, was essentially the No. 3 back, not Sermon. "Trey had an opportunity (earlier this season) when guys got hurt and I thought he got better in each game with that. But he didn't do enough for us to put him ahead of Elijah or Jeff," Shanahan said. It's clear that Sermon just isn't ready for a bigger workload, and he's only worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues.
