Trevor Story Could Return Earlier Than Expected
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox are considering having shortstop Trevor Story (elbow) come back from the 60-day injured list before he can play the infield as a designated hitter, according to manager Alex Cora. This doesn't mean it's exactly what the Red Sox will end up doing, but it's notable nonetheless. The 30-year-old middle infielder will return to starting duties at shortstop once he's ready to play the field, which will push Enrique Hernandez back to the outfield most likely. Story is around five months removed from an internal-bracing procedure on his right elbow to fix a UCL injury, and it remains to be seen how effective he'll be at the plate upon his return. Story hit a disappointing .238 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, 66 RBI and 13 steals in 94 games in his first year in Boston in 2022. He's currently rostered in only 36% of Yahoo leagues.
