Trevor Lawrence 2022 Outlook: Tons of Upside with New Coaching Regime and Bolstered Offense
3 years agoThe Jaguars can't be any worse than they were a season ago. The Urban Meyer experiment was a disaster, Travis Etienne didn't play a single snap, D.J. Chark got hurt early in the season, and suddenly Trevor Lawrence found himself in an awful environment for a rookie quarterback. But there's a new regime in town, led by head coach Doug Pederson, who made magic happen in Philadelphia with Carson Wentz and Nick Foles just a few short years ago. The offense surrounding Lawrence looks a lot different now than it did a year ago. They replaced Chark with Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram, while also bolstering the offensive line by adding All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff. Last season, the Jaguars played with little pace, averaging just 60.5 plays per game, the fourth-least in the league. Under Pederson, the Eagles averaged 66.7 plays per game between 2016 and 2020. That number would have been good for the fifth-most in the league last season. The up-tempo style of play should help Lawrence get into a better rhythm this season. That rhythm didn't exist last season, and it showed up in his subpar numbers. Lawrence averaged just 12.7 fantasy points per game, fewer than spot starters Mike White, Geno Smith, Tyrod Taylor, and Trevor Siemian. But there's hope for the former number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wentz was also not very good his rookie season in Philadelphia, throwing for just 236.4 yards per game with a 1.1 touchdown to interception ratio. Lawrence was even worse, but we can chalk that up to the dysfunction that existed last season in Jacksonville. And much like Wentz, Lawrence has sneaky wheels for a big quarterback, rushing 4.3 times per game for a total of 334 yards and two scores as a rookie. If Wentz could go from averaging 13.3 fantasy points per game as a rookie to 21.8 fantasy points per game in his second year, so can Trevor Lawrence. You won't find a quarterback with as much upside going as late as he does in drafts this upcoming season.
"No Chance" Jaguars Will Trade Trevor Lawrence
2 months agoRegarding a recent report from 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi that the Pittsburgh Steelers inquired about a trade for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there's "no chance" they will trade Lawrence and called the idea "ridiculous," according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco. The Steelers may or may not have reached out to the Jags about Lawrence, but despite an injury-plagued and disappointing season for the 25-year-old in 2024, Jacksonville plans to build around the former first overall pick under new head coach Liam Coen rather than trade him away. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, is at a crossroads at the QB position with both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields scheduled to hit free agency next month. They are expected to re-sign only one of them. With better health in 2025, Lawrence could be a rebound candidate under Coen after playing in a career-low 10 games last year.

Jaguars Plan To Build Around Trevor Lawrence
2 months agoAt his introductory press conference on Monday as the Jacksonville Jaguars' new head coach, Liam Coen said that he plans on building around quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who was the first overall pick back in 2021 out of Clemson. "How do we make Trevor Lawrence and this offense as dynamic and explosive as we can be? We've got to build it around him, we've got to make every part of this about improvement, and he will be a part of that process," Coen said. "He's earned that right. I cannot respect his toughness and mentality and work ethic more than I do already from afar. This will all be about Trevor." The 25-year-old so far has not lived up to his draft stock in four NFL seasons, and he played in a career-low 10 games in 2024 due to shoulder and concussion issues. Lawrence's fantasy stock has never been lower, but Coen's bright offensive mind should give him an opportunity to bounce back as a QB2 in 2025.

Trevor Lawrence Undergoes Shoulder Surgery
3 months agoJacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) underwent surgery on Tuesday to fix his left AC joint sprain and is expected to return for spring workouts, according to head coach Doug Pederson. The Jaguars had to wait for Lawrence to clear the league's concussion protocol before he was cleared to go under the knife for his shoulder injury. The 25-year-old former first overall pick was placed on Injured Reserve on Dec. 4 and will obviously miss the rest of what was an extremely disappointing season in his fourth year in the league. In single-QB leagues next fall, fantasy managers will be avoiding Lawrence everywhere after he completed only 60.6 percent of his 284 pass attempts for a career-low 2,045 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 starts. He finished as the QB7 in 2022 and as the QB12 a year ago before bottoming out in 2024.

Trevor Lawrence Must Clear Concussion Protocol Before Shoulder Surgery
4 months agoJacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson confirmed on Friday that quarterback Trevor Lawrence (concussion, shoulder) will have surgery to fix a sprained AC joint in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. However, Lawrence must first clear the league's concussion protocol before surgery is scheduled. The former first overall pick out of Clemson suffered a scary concussion in the Week 13 loss to the division-rival Houston Texans and was placed on Injured Reserve. Although Lawrence would be eligible to return in the Week 18 regular-season finale, the Jaguars are shutting him down for the season and will have him undergo surgery on his shoulder. The 25-year-old should be fully ready for the start of the 2025 season next fall, but after a very disappointing 2024 campaign, Lawrence will probably go undrafted next year in standard 12-team, one-QB fantasy leagues.
