Trent Grisham 2022 Player Outlook: Potential Mid-Round Bounceback Candidate
3 years agoGrisham turned heads with his .251/.352/.456 line with 10 each of HR and SB in 2020, but his sophomore campaign wasn't nearly as exciting: .242/.327/.413 with 15 HR and 13 SB in 527 PAs. The biggest culprit seems to be his rate of Brls/BBE, which fell from 11.1% in 2020 to just 5.2% in 2021. His HR/FB was nearly cut in half as a result, from 20% to 12%. Grisham's struggles at the plate also led to a demotion to the bottom third of the order, making it harder for him to compile counting stats as well. That said, there were some positives in the seemingly lost season. Grisham struck out less often with a 22.6 K% against a 25.4% mark in 2020 on the strength of a career-best 87.7 Z-Contact%. He also cut his IFFB% drastically, going from 16% in 2020 to 7.2% last year. His BB% appears poised for positive regression too, as his walk rate fell from 12.3% to 10.2% despite no change in his overall approach. If Grisham can regain some of his lost power while translating his 2021 peripherals into actual production, he should turn a nice profit on his ADP of 128.68.
