Tomas Nido Expected To Be Designated For Assignment
2 years agoThe New York Mets are expected to designate catcher Tomas Nido for assignment, according to a source. The team will go with a catching tandem of prospect Francisco Alvarez and Omar Narvaez (calf) moving forward. Nido is strong defensively behind the plate, but he doesn't hit much and has gone just 7-for-56 (.125) in 22 games this year for the Mets with one, RBI, two walks and 18 strikeouts in 61 trips to the plate. If the 29-year-old clears waivers, there's a chance he could remain with the organization in the minor leagues. The 29-year-old backstop has a .213/.249/.308 career slash line with a .557 OPS and 13 home runs in 274 major-league games.
