Taylor Decker Looks Set To Miss Week 1
3 years agoDetroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker (finger) looks set to miss the regular season opener on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers after suffering a finger injury that kept him out of practice on Thursday. Matt Nelson, who is a converted defensive lineman and the only backup tackle on the team's active roster, is expected to fill in on the offensive line. Nelson appeared in all 16 games last year and played significant offensive snaps as an injury replacement. Veteran Will Holden was brought up from the practice squad to provide depth for the offensive line. If Decker misses Week 1, it will be just his second missed game since 2018. First-rounder Penei Sewell could shift to quarterback Jared Goff's blind side after he dominated at that position in college. Either way, Decker's injury is a downgrade for Goff in his team debut against a tough defense in San Fran.
