T.J. Yeldon 2018 Outlook: Only An Ankle Away from Relevance
6 years agoWhen the Jaguars drafted T.J. Yeldon in the second round out of Michigan State, they were hoping to have their running back of the future. While it took a few more years and a different player to actually get a franchise running back, Yeldon is still a good handcuff should Leonard Fournette go down with an ankle injury, which has become commonplace for him in college and the NFL. With Chris Ivory no longer in the picture, Yeldon is the likely backup and potential handcuff to Fournette, although he may have to hold off Corey Grant in the preseason. Should he do so, fantasy value could be there for a few games this season. While the gain of a few games worth of production is not worth a roster spot on draft day, he could be a top-20 running back should Fournette go down and you can get him before anyone else off waivers. In dynasty leagues he holds more value as he will be a free agent after the 2018 season and along with Tevin Coleman could be the next backup running back to switch teams for a starter's role a la Jerick McKinnon. This gives him more intrigue in dynasty leagues than it appears at the moment.
