Steelers Prefer Prospects That Didn't Opt Out In 2020
4 years agoPittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said that the team prefers college draft prospects that didn't opt out of the 2020 season due to concerns over COVID-19. "As I stated in the summer, if a player chooses to opt out for whatever reason, that's their decision and we will respect it," Colbert said. "However, if a player played in 2020 and those players are of equal value, the one that didn't play and the one that played, we'll take the one that played because we don't know what the opt-outs will be like in their first season back in football." The Steelers are concerned that college players that sat out last year will have some rust in their return to football at an even higher level in the NFL. It doesn't mean that the Steelers won't draft a player who opted out in 2020, but given a choice, they want someone who played college ball last year.
