Shohei Ohtani Leads MLB In Home Runs
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter/starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani, who will start on the mound in the series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday, is MLB's co-leader in home runs with seven. The last time a pitcher led baseball in home runs was when Babe Ruth had 19 round-trippers and was the New York Yankees starting pitcher on June 13, 1921, per the Elias Sports Bureau. Ohtani is tied with seven other hitters with seven home runs in the early going this season, and he'll be making his third start of the year as a pitcher. He has a 1.04 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings to this point. It just speaks to how incredible of an athlete the 26-year-old Japanese star is. Ohtani has homered in three of his last five games and has become a must-start as a hitter. He'll have a nice matchup against the Rangers on the mound Monday as well.
