Shohei Ohtani In The Lineup Friday
1 year agoLos Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (elbow) is serving as the designated hitter and batting in the two-hole on Friday against the New York Mets and right-hander Kodai Senga. Ohtani received bad news on Wednesday night when he was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow, and he won't pitch again the rest of the season. The 29-year-old Japanese All-Star could need to have the second Tommy John procedure of his career, but until that is decided, he's expected to continue serving as the Angels' everyday DH. Ohtani has been better as a hitter in 2023, and he currently leads the league in runs scored (97), triples (seven), home runs (44), walks (78), on-base percentage (.405), slugging percentage (.664), OPS (1.069) and total bases (310) in 126 games.
