Shohei Ohtani Comes Up Clutch In Pinch-Hit Appearance
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter/starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani had a game-tying, pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the seventh inning of the 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday and stayed in the game in right field for the final two innings. Ohtani has played in all but one of the team's 47 games so far this year. He entered the day Sunday with a major league-leading 28 extra-base hits and 104 total bases. On the mound, the right-hander has a 2.37 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings over six starts. Ohtani is slashing .268/.319/.619 with 14 home runs, 11 doubles, three triples, six stolen bases, 35 RBI and 32 runs scored in 44 games at the plate. The two-way star is proving that he's a must-start, both on the mound and as a hitter, in 2021.
