2 years agoThe Hanshin Tigers of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball officially posted right-hander Shintaro Fujinami on Thursday. Shintaro will have 30 days to negotiate a deal with a major-league club in the United States. The hard-throwing 28-year-old is best known for a nasty split-fingered fastball, but he'll need to exhibit better control in the States if he wants to find prolonged success. Fujinami has a career 3.41 ERA in Japan, and he posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 65 strikeouts and 21 walks in 66 2/3 innings in 2022 for the Tigers. He was initially compared to two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani when he was younger, but control issues have plagued him at times in Japan.
