Shintaro Fujinami Officially Posted
2 years agoThe Hanshin Tigers of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball officially posted right-hander Shintaro Fujinami on Thursday. Shintaro will have 30 days to negotiate a deal with a major-league club in the United States. The hard-throwing 28-year-old is best known for a nasty split-fingered fastball, but he'll need to exhibit better control in the States if he wants to find prolonged success. Fujinami has a career 3.41 ERA in Japan, and he posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 65 strikeouts and 21 walks in 66 2/3 innings in 2022 for the Tigers. He was initially compared to two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani when he was younger, but control issues have plagued him at times in Japan. Only 16 of his 25 appearances in 2022 were at the NPB's top level.
