Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoOklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a good debut season in the league, but that didn't save him from a big trade that saw Paul George land in L.A. It's certainly a bit of a blow for a young player to get traded so early in his career, but we should also be pumped by the possibility of Gilgeous-Alexander wanting to prove the Clippers wrong. The Kentucky product was named in the All-Rookie Second Team in his first year after averaging 10.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 26.5 minutes. He did even better in the playoffs, which is rare for a first-year player, upping his scoring average to 13 points and even shooting 50 percent from three-point land. Gilgeous-Alexander shot 36.7 percent from deep during the regular season and sank 47.6 percent of his field-goal attempts in total. His numbers improved across the board after the All-Star break, and his development should continue at OKC. He has the chance to be the starting shooting guard, and Chris Paul's influence will surely help him grow. Offensively, Gilgeous-Alexander might lack consistency at times, but he makes up for it with his efforts at the defensive end, which should secure him solid minutes each night.
