Saquon Barkley Could Return For $14 Million Per Season
2 years agoNew York Giants impending free-agent running back Saquon Barkley finished fourth in the NFL in rushing in 2022 with 1,312 yards, and his nine carries of 20-plus yards placed him fifth in the league. Barkley could be a candidate for the franchise tag, and his injury history doesn't help his cause for a long-term deal. From 2019 to 2021, he missed 20 total games due to injuries. The Giants and Barkley don't appear close to a long-term deal, and the deal he turned down during the bye week in 2022 was for more than $12 million per year. Only six RBs currently have deals that average more than $12 million per year, and the 26-year-old Barkley has made it clear he's not trying to reset the RB market. The belief is that the Giants could re-sign Barkley if they meet in the middle at $14 million per year. The franchise tag would earn him $10.1 million in 2023.
