In what can only be described as very sad news, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson is taking an immediate leave of absence due to a battle with cancer. Alderson was first diagnosed with the disease in December of 2015 and all seemed to be going well until a re-occurrence was detected in late-April/early-May. Alderson has already been undergoing treatment but will now step aside with surgery and further chemotherapy on the way. During Alderson’s absence, John Ricco, J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya will take over decision-making duties. Although the Mets may now be struggling, Alderson deserves all the credit in the world for turning the team around years ago, culminating in a World Series appearance in 2015. RotoBaller wishes Alderson a speedy recovery.--John SmithRead More News
