Sandy Alcantara Playing Catch Off And On
6 months agoMiami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (elbow), who has been playing catch off and on, was rehabbing with the team on Monday in Kansas City. Alcantara initially felt discomfort in his right elbow on the 94th and final pitch of his Sept. 3 start against the Washington Nationals last year and was diagnosed with a right forearm flexor strain. An MRI later showed a right UCL sprain before he ultimately had Tommy John surgery. Alcantara began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 21 but shut himself down after experiencing forearm tightness. The 2022 National League Cy Young winner will miss all of the 2024 season, but the good news is that he's been playing catch for months now and should be ready for the start of next year, barring any setbacks.
