The New Orleans Saints will not be picking up the fifth-year option on offensive lineman Trevor Penning for the 2026 season. They announced earlier on Wednesday that they will pick up the fifth-year option for wide receiver Chris Olave. It's a no-brainer decision for the Saints on the 25-year-old Penning, who hasn't exactly panned out as a reliable starter on their offensive line since they took him 19th overall in 2022 out of Northern Iowa. He did start all 17 games at right tackle for the Saints in 2024 after starting just six games in his first two years in the league in 2022 and 2023, but Penning was a liability in pass protection for beat-up quarterback Derek Carr (shoulder) and those that replaced him due to injury. With the news, Penning is now scheduled to become a free agent after the upcoming 2025 season.--Keith Hernandez
