1 year agoThe Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche have made a trade that will send center Casey Middlestadt to the Avs while defenseman Bowen Byram goes to the Sabres. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a career year that has seen him post 14 goals and 47 points across 62 games. He is on pace to surpass the 15 goals and 59 points he recorded last season while his 18:16 of average ice time is by far a career-high, as well. Byram, 22, was taken with the fourth-overall pick of the 2019 draft by the Avalanche but has seen his young career stall due to multiple concussions. He appeared in just 72 games across a two-season span before skating in 55 of Colorado's 63 games this season. He has a healthy eight goals and 20 points on the season but became expendable once the Avs acquired defenseman Sean Walker from the Flyers on Wednesday.--Brenton Kemp

5 months agoColorado Avalanche center Casey Mittelstadt served up three assists in Sunday's 5-4 win over Ottawa. He had an assist in each period, making it back-to-back three-point games for himself. Mittelstadt has been very productive on the second line, posting seven goals and 12 points in nine games. However, he's also had a tough time on the defensive side of things, as Mittelstadt carries a minus-four rating for the season. Still, he's become a very useful fantasy asset and could have another big night on Monday when Colorado faces the hapless Blackhawks, who are giving up 3.44 goals per game.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

1 year agoBuffalo Sabres center Casey Mittelstadt finished with a goal and two assists in Monday's 5-1 victory against the Rangers. Mittelstadt extended his point streak to five consecutive games in the contest, while the three-point performance was a season-high for the Sabres forward. Mittelstadt has totaled four goals and 16 assists for a team-high of 20 points through 22 games, and the 25-year-old has been centering the first line to increase his fantasy value moving forward.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller

1 year agoBuffalo Sabres center Casey Mittelstadt (upper body) was back in practice Wednesday after missing Tuesday's session. He reportedly "tweaked" something in practice on Monday. It looks like Mittelstadt will be good to go for Thursday's season opener versus the Rangers. The former top-10 pick made a big breakthrough last term with 59 points (15 goals, 44 assists) in 82 games, and he should enjoy another productive campaign on a Buffalo team that looks full of goals. Jordan Greenway and Zach Benson are projected to be Mittelstadt's partners on the third line Thursday evening.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 years agoBuffalo Sabres center Casey Mittelstadt logged two more points in Saturday's 4-3 win over Carolina to continue his red-hot finish to the regular season. The 24-year-old struck a pair of goals against the Hurricanes, reaching 10 points in his last seven appearances. Mittelstadt has tallied seven points in the last four games alone. He's benefited from Tage Thompson's absence, but Buffalo's No. 1 center has also been in the lineup for the last three games. Mittelstadt has made huge strides in his game this season, logging 53 points in 78 outings after managing only 90 points in his previous 195 career appearances.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
