The Kansas City Royals selected outfielder Gavin Cross with the ninth overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft. Cross was a standout for the Team USA collegiate baseball squad last summer, then he went on to have a fantastic junior year at Virginia Tech this past season. Over 57 games with the Hokies, he slashed .328/.411/.660 with 17 homers, 12 stolen bases, 50 RBI and 70 runs. The 6'3" 21-year-old has some plate discipline concerns, but he's improved upon both his strikeout rate and walk rate over the past few years.
