The Kansas City Royals fired manager Mike Matheny and pitching coach Cal Eldred following the regular season finale on Wednesday. The Royals finished the 2022 season 65-97. The team was plagued by poor pitching and struggles from young position players and a lackluster group of veterans. Owner John Sherman fired long-time front-office executive Dayton Moore last month. Moore was replaced by J.J. Picollo, who is actually a candidate to take over the managerial duties from Matheny. Matheny went 26-34 during the COVID-shortened 2020 season and finished 74-88 in 2021. He finished 165-219 in his time with KC. The pitching staff had the fourth-worst ERA and the worst WHIP of any staff in the majors this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
