Roquan Smith 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Fantasy’s New #1 Linebacker?
2 years agoChicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith has surpassed Indianapolis Colts Darius Leonard as fantasy's top-overall linebacker on many boards, particularly in leagues where tackles come at a premium. What sets Smith apart from Leonard for many is his health, as Smith hasn't missed a game in two years while Leonard is frequently dealing with nagging injuries. Aside from health, Smith has also surpassed Leonard in terms of fantasy efficiency, as the Bears' star has collected more solo tackles than the Colt for two straight years. That consistency can make the difference in the weekly game of fantasy, and it helps that Smith outgained Leonard in sacks and tackles for loss last year, as well. That said, this former Bulldog doesn't have the most upside in any particular format. Those in tackle-premium scoring may prefer Bobby Wagner's or Jordyn Brooks' tackle stylings. Meanwhile, if you're in a big play format, you will likely target Leonard, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Devin White before the Bears' leader. Smith is arguably the safest player amongst those names, but his upside is somewhat lower.
