Robinson Chirinos Returning To Rangers
5 years agoThe Texas Rangers agreed to a one-year, $6.75 million deal with catcher Robinson Chirinos on Tuesday, according to MLB sources. He'll make $5.75 million in 2020, and the deal includes a club option for 2021 worth $6.25 million or a $1 million buyout. Texas opted not to pick up Chirinos' option for 2019 and instead went with Jeff Mathis, who hit just .158 with a .433 OPS. The 35-year-old Chirinos isn't the most polished defender behind the plate, but he hit 17 long balls and had a .790 OPS in a career-high 437 at-bats for the Astros last season. Chirinos will be the Rangers primary catcher in 2020 and will have plenty of fantasy appeal for his power in a hitter-friendly park. Just remember that Chirinos is as streaky as they come offensively.
