Robinson Chirinos Could Avoid Injured List
4 years agoThere is growing optimism that Texas Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos (ankle) will avoid the injured list, but he might be limited in the first few series of the regular season. Chirinos injured his ankle during an intrasquad game on Monday, but the injury isn't that serious. The 36-year-old can be extremely streaky and is unlikely to help with a high batting average, but he did hit 17 home runs in 114 games for Houston last year and he can provide 15-plus long balls and 50-plus RBI as a second backstop in two-catcher leagues. Jeff Mathis could see more starts behind the dish to kick off the regular season as Chirinos works his way back to full health.
