Robert Woods Entering Uncharted Territory
5 years agoLos Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods has continued to struggle in the passing game, finishing the team’s Week 3 20-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns with three catches on eight targets for 40 yards. This reduced workload is a marked change from prior seasons for Woods, as one of the preseason positives in favor of drafting the veteran appeared to be his safe floor. Woods still is heavily involved in the offense and remains a top target for quarterback Jared Goff (look no further than his eight targets), but it seems the veteran has fallen behind his teammates Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp in regards to target share. With a matchup against a reeling Tampa Bay secondary that just gave 300-plus passing yards to a rookie on the horizon for Week 4, fantasy owners should consider Woods as a low-end WR2 in both standard and PPR formats. His days of having consistent volume are now gone, but there remains significant upside due to the explosiveness of the Rams offense, and many owners could do worse than having Woods as a flex play.
