Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Wins At Talladega To Salvage Lackluster Season
2 months agoRicky Stenhouse Jr. is considered one of the foremost NASCAR Cup Series drafting specialists and he backed that up with a win in Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega. He also won Stage 1 after a last-lap pass of Chris Buescher. Although he has had a low-key very disappointing season, as his speed percentile of 34.69% this year is the slowest of his career and his seven crash DNFs are tied for his most ever, he remains consistently capable of strong runs on drafting tracks. He certainly had a great deal of help because Austin Cindric seemed to be faster but got turned while he was battling Stenhouse for the lead with four laps remaining, which eliminated almost all of Stenhouse's remaining competition. The win ties him with Pete Hamilton and Michael Waltrip for the most Cup Series wins without winning on a track other than Daytona or Talladega with four.
