Reds Send Vladimir Gutierrez Down
3 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds optioned right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday and recalled right-hander Ashton Goudeau in a corresponding move. Gutierrez hasn't been terrible in his first stint in the big leagues, but he also hasn't been very reliable from a fantasy perspective, even in much deeper leagues. The 25-year-old Cuban will head back down to the farm with a 4.97 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 15.5 percent strikeout rate and 10.5 percent walk rate in 54 1/3 innings covering 10 starts. His demotion comes after he allowed six runs on nine hits in just four innings against the New York Mets on Monday. Gutierrez has a good shot at returning at some point later in the second half, but with those strikeout and walk rates, fantasy managers should look elsewhere.
