Red Sox, Rafael Devers Agree On 11-Year Extension
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox and star third baseman Rafael Devers are in agreement on an 11-year, $331 million contract extension on Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The deal is not done, but the physical process has started. The New York Post's Jon Heyman reports the contract doesn't include a no-trade clause, and Devers will receive a $20 million signing bonus. Devers and the team just avoided salary arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $17.5 million deal. The 26-year-old's extension breaks a Boston franchise record and also the MLB record for biggest contract for a third baseman. But he's proven to be one of the best hitters in baseball the last several seasons and slashed .295/.358/.521 with an .879 OPS, 27 home runs, 88 RBI, 84 runs scored and three steals in 141 games in 2022 with Boston. Devers will be a pricey fantasy commodity in the early rounds of 2023 drafts.
