Rays Agree With Alika Williams

The Tampa Bay Rays officially signed shortstop Alika Williams, the 37th overall pick in the competitive-balance portion of the first round, on Thursday. The slot value for the No. 37 pick is $1.993 million, but the financial details of Williams' deal were not disclosed. The Arizona State shortstop stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds and had a strong summer in the Cape Cod League last year. He makes consistent contact from the right side of the plate, but power just isn't a big part of his game, even with added strength in the last year. Williams does have above-average hands, range and ability to throw on the run, though, so he should stick at shortstop defensively. If he reaches the big leagues with Tampa, he'll have a limited fantasy ceiling because of his glove-first profile.
