Ravens Insist Joe Flacco Is Their Starter
7 years agoThe Baltimore Ravens insist that quarterback Joe Flacco remains there starter after they traded up and took quarterback Lamar Jackson with the last pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft Thursday night. "[Jackson's] a great quarterback. But Joe Flacco is our quarterback," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. "That's the thing we got to remember. Lamar is going to have a great chance to develop. When you get to this stage in a quarterback's career, you've seen done in New England and you've seen done in a lot of places. This doesn't really change things in a sense that we're going to go with Joe and he's going to roll." Baltimore also doesn't see Jackson as a hybrid player but solely as a QB. Flacco hasn't been good since winning the Super Bowl six years ago, throwing 98 touchdowns and 74 interceptions with a passer rating (82.1) that ranks No. 36 over that span. Baltimore can create $18.5 million in salary cap space by releasing Flacco next year, so 2018 could be his final season with the team. Nobody is touching Flacco as a QB1, and he's not even very attractive as your backup these days, even with the Ravens upgrading their receiving corps in free agency. Jackson, on the other hand, will be a popular dynasty/keeper pick this year.
