Rangers Call Up Hyeon-Jong Yang, Option Leody Taveras
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers called up former Korean standout pitcher Hyeon-Jong Yang from the alternate site on Monday before their series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Struggling rookie center fielder Leody Taveras was optioned in a corresponding move. First baseman/outfielder Ronald Guzman (knee) was also moved to the 60-day injured list. The 33-year-old left-hander was the MVP of the Korean Baseball Organization in 2017. He won the nation's ERA title in 2015 and 2019 with the Kia Tigers. Taveras was batting just .087 (4-for-46) with one RBI in 15 games (14 starts) this season. Guzman suffered a right knee meniscus tear and will have season-ending surgery on Wednesday. Yang will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
