Pirates Sign Robbie Erlin
5 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates signed pitcher Robbie Erlin to a minor league deal on Wednesday. Erlin will make $1.5 million if he's on the big league roster, plus another $100,000 in incentives. He'll receive an invite to spring training and can opt out of the deal if he's not on the Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old left-hander was 0-1 with a 5.37 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while striking out 52 and walking 15 in 36 relief appearances and one start for the Padres in 2019. He allowed just six home runs and posted a 3.61 FIP and career-high 8.5 K/9, though, so his final results were a bit unfortunate. Given Pittsburgh's lack of experience in the rotation, there's a chance that Erlin could become a valuable swingman for the Bucs. If he makes some starts in Pittsburgh, there could be some DFS and deep league streaming appeal.
