Pirates Acquire Billy McKinney From Yankees
12 months agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the New York Yankees on Thursday in exchange for international bonus pool money, according to a source. In 2023 with the Yankees, McKinney saw 147 plate appearances over 48 games and went 29-for-128 (.227) with six home runs and 14 RBI. He will strictly serve as veteran outfield depth for the rebuilding Pirates in 2024 but shouldn't expected to be anything more than a bench bat if he's at the major-league level. The 29-year-old outfielder has spent six years in the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays, Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers but has hit just over the Mendoza Line and has only 34 home runs and 86 RBI in 311 games played.
