Pavin Smith Taking Dry Swings
Pavin Smith (oblique) has begun taking dry swings as he works back from a strained right oblique. The Diamondbacks still don't have a timetable to return for Smith, who landed on the 10-day injured list on July 6. Playing almost exclusively against right-handed pitchers, the lefty-swinging Smith has hit .261/.371/.446 with eight home runs, 28 RBI, and 33 runs scored in 264 plate appearances this season. Smith has mostly functioned as a DH, where the Diamondbacks have rotated players during his absence. Catcher Adrian Del Castillo has started three straight games there since the team recalled him from Triple-A Reno.
