The New England Patriots will re-sign quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year deal worth "close to $14 million," according to a league source. Newton will return to New England after playing in 2020 on a one-year, $1.75 million deal that was heavy with incentives. The 31-year-old started 15 games and completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 2,657 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His passer rating of 82.9 put him 22nd overall among qualifying QBs. He also added 592 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns with his legs. Newton missed a game due to COVID-19, and he said it affected him the rest of the year. Another season in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels' scheme should help Newton, but he'll need better weapons in the passing game to succeed. If Newton's passing doesn't improve, he'll merely be a QB2 with some upside because of his rushing abilities.--Keith HernandezRead More News
