Patriots Name Cam Newton Their Starting QB
4 years agoThe New England Patriots officially named quarterback Cam Newton the starting QB on Thursday in a team meeting, according to a source. Newton was also named as one of the team's captains for 2020, so he seems to be fitting in just fine with his new squad. The former MVP was basically a lock for the starting gig once Jarrett Stidham was injured in training camp, but now it's official. There are injury concerns surrounding the 31-year-old former Panther and New England has a young and inexperienced receiving corps behind Julian Edelman, but Newton will have a solid offensive line in front of him and the benefit of Bill Belichick scheming the offense for him. If healthy, there's still upside in the dual-threat talent, making Newton a high-end QB2 for fantasy owners.
