Patriots Could Target One-Year Deal For DeAndre Hopkins
2 years agoESPN's Mike Reiss thinks a one-year, $10 million contract that would be worth up to $12-13 million might be more reasonable for the New England Patriots to offer free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. But if joining a contender is of greater importance to Hopkins, it would change the dynamic and give top-tier teams with less financial flexibility a change to get into the mix for his services. Hopkins played under Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien in Houston from 2014 to 2019 when O'Brien was the head coach and was named a first-team All-Pro three times, totaling more than 1,000 receiving yards in five seasons for the Texans. Still, there are concerns as to whether Hopkins fits into head coach Bill Belichick's culture. Wherever the 31-year-old lands, he should immediately become that team's top wideout.
