Patriots Bringing In Cam Newton
4 years agoThe New England Patriots signed quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million with incentives on Sunday, according to a source. Newton, who was released by the Panthers this offseason amid health concerns, will have a chance to compete with second-year QB Jarrett Stidham for the starting gig in 2020. Even though this is a bare-minimum deal for the former MVP, Newton should be considered the favorite to win the starting job if he proves that his shoulder and foot are completely healthy. Don't automatically assume that joining forces with Bill Belichick will return the 31-year-old Newton to high-end QB1 status. The Pats like Stidham quite a bit, too, but Newton would be more of a QB2 with some upside if he wins the job and stays healthy.
