Paolo Espino Surprises In Spot Start
3 years agoWashington Nationals right-hander Paolo Espino threw five scoreless innings against the New York Mets on Monday to earn the win, giving up five hits while striking out three and walking none. The 34-year-old right-hander now has a 2.02 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings over 18 outings (three starts). Espino has a pristine 1.26 WHIP (two earned runs in 14 1/3 innings) in his three starts, but he's only struck out eight and has a 3.48 FIP and a very mediocre 6.6 K/9 on the season and 7.3 in his career over 65 2/3 innings. He's been great for the Nationals as a spot-starter this year and might've earned another shot with Erick Fedde on the injured list, but his numbers aren't sustainable as a fantasy streamer.
