5 days agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Josiah Gray (elbow) is set to throw his first rehab start on Sunday for low-A Frederickburg. The right-hander has finally progressed to throwing in live games after missing the last two months due to a flexor strain in his elbow. The plan is for Gray to throw 50-55 pitches during his first rehab start. If that goes well, Gray would likely head to Double-A Harrisburg for his next start. Fantasy managers are going to have to wait a few more weeks before getting Gray back into their starting rotations.Source: Bobby Blanco
5 days agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish is scheduled to take the ball for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander was supposed to start on Friday, but was pushed back a day for extra rest. O's manager Brandon Hyde said there are no health concerns for Bradish. This looks like a case of the Orioles just being cautious with Bradish who is coming off an elbow injury. Fantasy managers should prepare to have Bradish back on the mound for Saturday's game.Source: Rich Dubroff
5 days agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (hand) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that Hoerner's X-rays came back somewhat inconclusive. For the moment, fantasy managers should consider Hoerner as day-to-day. Although, it wouldn't be shocking to see Hoerner land on the injured list considering he's having trouble gripping the bat. David Bote will get the starting nod at second base and figures to see more action there if Hoerner misses time.Source: Meghan Montemurro

5 days agoNew York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) will make another minor-league rehab start on Sunday for Double-A Somerset. In his first rehab start for Somerset on Tuesday, Cole looked very good, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out five and touching 97 mph on the radar gun. The 33-year-old reigning American League Cy Young winner is going to need several more rehab starts as he slowly builds up his pitch count, but after being out all year due to a right-elbow injury suffered in spring training, Cole is nearing his return from the 60-day injured list. When he returns to the starting rotation in the Bronx, Cole will be a must-start in all fantasy lineups right away as one of the most dominant arms in all of baseball.Source: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch
5 days agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (arm, back) will make a minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. It comes after Scherzer was able to throw a successful 40-pitch live batting practice session on Tuesday. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer was initially pulled off his rehab assignment in early May after dealing with a nerve issue in his right arm, but things are looking good now and he's getting closer to making his 2024 debut for the Rangers. However, given his long layoff, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Scherzer's rehab assignment to be short. Scherzer landed on the injured to begin the year after having offseason back surgery. The dominant right-hander's career exploits are impressive, but it's fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank at this point. But when healthy, Scherzer is deserving of being rostered in all fantasy leagues.Source: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson
5 days agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) resumed throwing on Wednesday after a scheduled rest period and will throw his first bullpen session on the team's next homestand, which begins on Monday, June 17, against the New York Mets. deGrom is still in the process of recovery from his second Tommy John surgery and has been out all year, but he's making progress and is set for a big step soon. Still, the 35-year-old veteran has a long ways to go before he'll be a realistic candidate to rejoin Texas' starting rotation in the second half of the season sometime in August. The upside from the four-time All-Star is obvious, but deGrom hasn't been able to make more than 15 starts in a season since 2019 with the New York Mets, and he won't have much time to contribute in fantasy once he returns later this year.Source: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson
5 days agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup on Friday on for the series opener against the visiting San Francisco Giants. It's not much of a surprise after Seager was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers with hamstring tightness. The good news is that the 30-year-old two-time World Series MVP is considered day-to-day and isn't expected to need a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers need to remove him from their lineups on Friday and check back to see if he's feeling good enough to play for the second game of the series on Saturday. After a slow start, Seager has picked things up offensively and has hit .354 (23-for-65) with nine homers and 15 RBI in 18 games since May 14. Josh Smith is at the 6 and is batting second on Friday, with Ezequiel Duran at third base and batting eighth against Giants right-hander Logan Webb.Source: Texas Rangers PR

5 days agoWith shortstop Tim Anderson landing on the bereavement list, Miami Marlins infielder Xavier Edwards was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville and is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff on Friday for the series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. Edwards could get some short-term run at shortstop in Miami while both Anderson and Otto Lopez are away from the team for personal reasons this weekend. The 24-year-old made his major-league debut in 2023 and went 23-for-78 (.295) with no homers, three RBI and five stolen bases in just 30 games. The switch-hitter got a late start to 2024 due to a bacterial infection. He has speed to spare -- he's stolen 30-plus bases twice in the minors -- but his fantasy value will likely be limited to NL-only leagues while he's up with the Marlins.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoThe Miami Marlins placed infielder Tim Anderson on the bereavement list on Friday and recalled infielders Tristan Gray and Xavier Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville in corresponding moves. Infielder Otto Lopez was also placed on the paternity list. The Marlins will be a little short-handed on infield depth for their weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. With the 30-year-old Anderson out of the field for the next two to three days, Vidal Brujan will likely take over the 6 for the Fish, with Edwards also being an option. Anderson's sudden fall has been exacerbated in his first year in Miami, as he's currently slashing a dreadful .188/.221/.206 with no home runs, three doubles, six RBI, three stolen bases and 11 runs scored in 48 games. He's become waiver-wire material in mixed leagues after making back-to-back All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022.Source: Miami Marlins

6 days agoCincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Williamson (shoulder) has been returned from his minor-league rehab assignment, which has now been stopped. Manager David Bell said on Thursday that Williamson is "still working his way back" from his shoulder injury. It's not exactly clear if the 26-year-old southpaw had a setback with his shoulder injury or if the Reds are just giving him a break, but either way, it's going to delay his potential return to Cincinnati's big-league starting rotation. In his last rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, Williamson allowed just one hit over four shutout innings. In four total rehab starts, he's allowed just one earned run on seven hits while walking three and fanning 11 in 13 2/3 frames. If Williamson has suffered a setback, he's not going to be an option for the Reds until after the All-Star break in mid-July.Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Charlie Goldsmith
