4 days agoArizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) will return from the 10-day injured list to rejoin the team on Tuesday for the start of their series against the Los Angeles Angels. Perdomo has been out since early April after requiring surgery to fix the meniscus in his right knee, but the 24-year-old is now ready to rejoin the Snakes and will eventually settle back in as the club's everyday shortstop, which is bad news for both veteran Kevin Newman and rookie Blaze Alexander, who have been filling in at the 6 since Perdomo went down. Perdomo isn't a high-end fantasy option at the shortstop position by any means, but he did make the All-Star squad in 2023 for the first time in his career, when the switch-hitting Dominican slashed .246/.353/.359 with six homers, 47 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 144 regular-season games.Source: Arizona Sports - John Gambadoro
4 days agoSan Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt said on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that third baseman Manny Machado (hip) "will be in the DH spot to make sure we limit the load on his lower half." A strained right hip flexor has kept Machado out of the team's starting lineup for each of the last four games, although he did serve in a pinch-hitting role several times since getting hurt last week in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels. The 31-year-old veteran will hope to pick up where he left off offensively before his injury as he faces Oakland Athletics right-hander Joey Estes on Monday, a pitcher he's never faced in his career. After getting off to a slow start in 2024, Machado has picked things up at the plate and is hitting .333 (16-for-48) with a homer, four doubles, seven RBI, three steals and five runs scored in 15 games since May 22. Get him back in your fantasy lineups this week.Source: MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM
4 days agoKansas City Royals left-handed-hitting first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino will start on the bench on Monday versus the visiting New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon, even though he's hitting .302 (13-for-43) against left-handers this year. Pasquantino has been hot so far in the month of June, hitting .310 (9-for-29) with a homer, four doubles, a triple, seven RBI and four runs scored in seven games to raise his season slash line to .243/.315/.437. Although fantasy managers may have been expecting more power (he has seven home runs), they can't complain about his 43 RBI for an upstart Royals club. Salvador Perez will play first and bat third, while Freddy Fermin will do the catching and hit sixth for the Royals on Monday against Rodon.Source: Kansas City Royals
4 days agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is taking a seat on Monday against the visiting Colorado Rockies. Manuel Margot will draw into center field for the series opener and will bat eighth against Rockies right-hander Dakota Hudson. The oft-injured Buxton could use a day of rest, as he's gone 12-for-65 (.185) with two home runs, one triple, five RBI, four walks and 21 strikeouts in 19 games since coming off the injured list on May 18. The 30-year-old has already been on the IL this year, is hitting just .223 (35-for-157), and hasn't shown much speed or power so far for the Twins in 2024. Margot has very little fantasy upside, especially in the eight-hole, and is hitting just .225 (27-for-120) on the year with a homer, 12 RBI and three stolen bases. He has one hit in four career at-bats versus Hudson.Source: MLB.com

4 days agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe is sitting out the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. The Rays have been cautious with Lowe since he returned from the 10-day injured list on June 4 following his second oblique injury of the season. The 26-year-old has only played in three of the six games he has been back, which is certainly frustrating for fantasy owners. In those contests, he is 1-for-11 at the plate with five strikeouts. Despite the limited playing time, Lowe is definitely a hold in all formats. He just hit .292 with 20 home runs, 83 RBI, and 32 stolen bases one year ago, so things should get better for those who own the Rays outfielder.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoMiami Marlins second baseman Otto Lopez was activated from the paternity list on the team's off day on Monday. Lopez was placed on the paternity list on June 7, as he welcomed a new baby into the world. After spending the maximum three days away from the team, he will rejoin the Marlins ahead of their three-game set against the New York Mets beginning on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has been a surprise bat in Miami's lineup this season and currently owns a .295 batting average with three home runs and 18 RBI. He also has a current six-game hitting streak, which he'll try to extend on Tuesday. The young infielder should resume his everyday role at second base for the Marlins. Source: Miami Marlins
4 days agoThe Miami Marlins made a couple of roster moves on Monday's off day, which included optioning infielders Xavier Edwards and Tristan Gray. Both players were just called up on June 7, but with Tim Anderson (bereavement list) and Otto Lopez (paternity list) ready to return, the team decided to send them both down again. Edwards started all three games this past weekend against the Cleveland Guardians -- going 2-for-9 with one double -- while Gray went 0-for-2 with one strikeout in his two plate appearances. Both players are now headed back to Triple-A Jacksonville after spending the weekend with the Marlins.Source: Miami Marlins
4 days agoMiami Marlins shortstop Tim Anderson was reinstated from the bereavement list on the team's off day on Monday. Anderson was placed on the bereavement list on June 7 and missed the Marlins' weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. However, he will be back on the active roster for the team's three-game set against the New York Mets beginning on Tuesday. It's been a rough year for the 30-year-old so far in 2024, especially at the plate. The veteran shortstop is batting just .188 with three doubles and six RBI across 48 games this season. As a result, he should only be considered in extremely deep leagues moving forward.Source: Christina De Nicola
4 days agoChicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga got back on track in the team's 4-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon. After the rookie gave up eight earned runs (12 total runs) with 15 hits over his last two outings, Imanaga delivered a strong performance in his 12th start of the year. The left-hander gave up just two runs on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts across 6 2/3 innings. That outing marked his seventh quality start of the season. The southpaw will carry a 1.96 ERA into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Source: ESPN
4 days agoMilwaukee Brewers pitching prospect Robert Gasser (elbow) is debating whether to have season-ending surgery on his UCL, which he said is not "broken" but also "not as strong as it should be." The 25-year-old southpaw received two other opinions, and it was initially believed the injury was to the flexor tendon in his forearm. One doctor recommended surgery, and the other recommended rest and rehab, which is why Gasser is scheduled for a third opinion from Dr. Keith Meister. As well as missing the rest of 2024 if he has surgery, Gasser would also most likely miss half of the 2025 campaign. The team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues, even if he has the surgery. Before getting hurt, he went 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 16 strikeouts in 28 innings over his first five MLB starts for the Brew Crew.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Curt Hogg
4 days agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (rib cage), who suffered torn cartilage in his left rib cage on April 20, has made significant progress but hasn't been cleared to swing a bat. Casas threw and took ground balls on Saturday, though, according to manager Alex Cora. "We have to be patient. Everything is trending in the right direction. I really don't know when he's going to start swinging, but just keep doing the things in the gym and taking ground balls," Cora said. "Hopefully that step is soon, but that's going to take a while. It's not easy [to know] because it's just about feel. We'll see." The 24-year-old said last week that he hoped to resume swinging last week, but that hasn't happened yet. The lefty-hitting first baseman is hoping to return around July 1, but that could be pushed back a bit. Either way, his power upside makes him a worthy stash in all fantasy leagues.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) hit indoors on Saturday, according to manager Alex Cora. Grissom missed the first 32 games of the season with a left-hamstring strain and then injured his right hamstring running out a grounder to third base on June 1. An MRI exam on the right-handed hitter showed a mild strain of his right hamstring. "We need to make sure that we're addressing what is pulling on the hamstring or whatever potentially is underlying and contributing to the hamstring injuries. But we'll kind of work to rehab him and get him on the field as soon as we can," chiefs baseball officer Craig Breslow said. It's good news that the 23-year-old's newest hammy injury isn't serious, but fantasy managers are quickly losing patience. With Romy Gonzalez (hamstring) also out, Enmanuel Valdez is seeing most of the playing time at the keystone in Boston.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (ankle) sprinted outside on Saturday, according to manager Alex Cora, who said on Sunday that Abreu is "feeling a lot better," and his recovery is "moving faster than everybody predicted." Abreu saw a foot specialist, and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said that nothing was revealed beyond the initial diagnosis of a sprain. The 24-year-old suffered the injury stumbling on the dugout steps on June 2 and sprained his right ankle. Before going on the injured list, Abreu was one of the best all-around hitters on the team, slashing .272/.344/.485 with six home runs, 14 doubles and 22 RBI while playing great defense in right field. Regression is expected for Abreu in the second half of the season, but fantasy managers in all formats should continue to ride him until that happens.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoBoston Red Sox infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez (hamstring) hit indoors on Saturday, and manager Alex Cora said on Sunday that the hope is Gonzalez will start a minor-league rehab assignment on June 11 with Triple-A Worcester. Gonzalez returned from his first stint on the injured list due to a left-wrist sprain on May 8, but he's back on the IL with a hammy issue. Cora said he doesn't expect Gonzalez to be out "that long." In just 35 at-bats this year for Boston, the 27-year-old is hitting .257 with six RBI. With Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) also on the shelf for Boston, Gonzalez could see some playing time at the keystone in Beantown if he makes it back before Grissom. Enmanuel Valdez is another option at second base.Source: MLB.com
