5 months agoNeil Magny pulled off an incredible upset win, stopping rising welterweight prospect Mike Malott with a comeback third-round TKO. Magny was the second-biggest underdog on the card at +290. Malott dominated Magny for the better part of three and a half rounds. However, in the final minutes, Magny stepped on the gas and overwhelmed Malott to earn himself a TKO victory. In 14:45 of action, Magny landed a takedown and 57 significant strikes. It was an incredible comeback performance and a finish by Magny that will keep him in the welterweight top 15.Source: UFC
5 months agoMovsar Evloev improved to 18-0 as a professional and 8-0 in the UFC by winning a back-and-forth decision over Arnold Allen at UFC 297. While Evloev managed to walk away from the bout with a unanimous-decision victory, he sustained significant damage in the final round, courtesy of some questionably legal knees from Allen. In 15 minutes of action, Evloev landed five takedowns and landed 51 significant strikes. Following the biggest win of his career, Evloev called for a featherweight title shot. 5 months agoArnold Allen and Movsar Evloev fought to a controversial unanimous decision at UFC 297 after 15 minutes of back-and-forth action. The most talked-about instance from this fight was the knee strikes Allen hit the undefeated Russian fighter, which was deemed illegal. Evloev sustained a cut on his head as a result of the blows, but he was deemed good enough to continue. Allen continued to push the pace but ultimately was unable to get the finish. Barriault was outstruck in all three rounds by Curtis, as the Canadian falls to be the pressure fighter that he usually is. With the loss to Curtis at UFC 297, Barriault dropped to 16-7 and one No Contest as a pro and 5-6 and 1 NC in the UFC. The loss to Curtis also snapped his two-fight winning streak as Barriault will likely need to win a few fights in a row to get another shot at a ranked opponent.Source: UFC
5 months agoChris Curtis returned to the win column with a split-decision win over Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 297. Curtis was coming off a no-contest against Nassourdine Imavov and a controversial decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum. Curtis outstruck Barriault in all three rounds, but it was competitive in all three. The American finished the fight with 140 significant strikes to Barriault's 122 as he edged out the split decision win.Source: UFC
5 months agoMike Malott suffered a stunning third-round TKO loss to Neil Magny at UFC 297 on Saturday. Malott entered his main card spot as a sizeable favorite and looked to be cruising to a win. The Canadian outstruck Magny 20-to-5 in significant strikes in the first round, and then in round two outstruck him 21-to-6 in significant strikes, as well as going 2-for-2 on takedowns with 3:08 of control. However, Malott gassed out and was taken down by Magny who landed ground-and-pound strikes and scored the TKO win with 15 seconds left. It is Malott's first UFC loss and drops him to 10-2-1 as a pro.Source: UFC
5 months agoSean Strickland suffered a split decision loss to Dricus Du Plessis in the main event of UFC 297 on Saturday to lose his middleweight title. Strickland started off strong as he outstruck Du Plessis 39-to-19 in the first round, but did get taken down twice in the opening five minutes. The next four rounds were very competitive, and although Strickland outstruck Du Plessis in three of the four rounds, two of the three judges' scored the fight for the South African. Although Strickland lost his title at UFC 297, he likely is only a win away from getting another title shot.Source: UFC
5 months agoDricus Du Plessis remained undefeated in the UFC and became the new middleweight champion with a split decision win over Sean Strickland at UFC 297. Du Plessis was outstruck in the first round but did go for 2-for-3 on his takedowns in the first five minutes. The fight was back-and-forth, but the South African was able to win rounds two through four on two of the judges' scorecards to edge out the split decision. Du Plessis was outstruck 183-to-140 but went 6-for-11 on his takedowns with 2:08 of control. It was a very competitive fight, but Du Plessis was able to edge out the win, despite being outstruck four of the five rounds.Source: UFC
