Padres Will Continue To Discuss Extension With Juan Soto
1 year agoSan Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller said the team will continue to discuss the possibility of a long-term contract extension with outfielder Juan Soto this offseason. "Juan long-term, Juan on a one-year deal, that brings different dynamics. We understand what that means for our roster both short-term and long-term," Preller said. Soto's agent, Scott Boras, said at the GM meetings this week that the Padres have a plan in place for next year that includes Soto in the lineup. If the Friars decide that the 25-year-old will be too expensive in the long-term, they could still try to work out a trade that would bring in a handful of high-end prospects for the future. Even though the Padres disappointed in 2023 and didn't make the postseason, it wasn't Soto's fault, as he slashed .275/.410/.519 with a .930 OPS, a career-high 35 home runs, 109 RBI, 12 stolen bases, 97 runs scored and an MLB-leading 132 walks in all 162 games.
