Padres Sign Brian O'Grady
4 years agoThe San Diego Padres signed outfielder Brian O'Grady to a major league deal on Tuesday. O'Grady has hit just .213 with a .749 OPS over parts of two seasons with the Reds and Rays so far in his career, but the 28-year-old brings speed and power upside and should give the Friars some depth and versatility. He can play all three outfield spots and first and third base. O'Grady slashed .280/.359/.550 with 28 home runs and 20 stolen bases in 2019 for Triple-A Louisville with Cincinnati. The left-handed swinger will be competing for a bench spot during spring training, but he also has minor league options remaining. The Padres are expected to make other bench upgrades, as Greg Garcia, Jurickson Profar, Mitch Moreland and Jason Castro are all free agents.
