Orlando Arcia 2019 Outlook: Late Speculation Pick At Deep Position
6 years agoMilwaukee Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia continued to cause frustration for fantasy owners in 2018. While he had good numbers in 2017 (15HR, 14SB, .277AVG), he could not build upon it last year with only three homers, seven stolen bases and a .236 batting average in 366 plate appearances. Career-worsts in strikeout (23.8%) and walk rates (4.1%) led his poor performance. Another negative combination last season was a 56% ground-ball rate combined with a 26% hard-hit rate. These two together negatively affected his on-base percentage (.268). Arcia’s poor start to the year resulted in two demotions to the minors, and he was even rumored to be in trade talks. He did perform well late in the season to give optimism for 2019. Once recalled from Triple-A in late July, he hit one HR with 15 RBI, four SB, and a .290 average in 154 PA. Admittedly, some of that is inflated by a .376 batting average on balls in play. Regardless, Arcia’s post-All-Star performance was more comparable to his 2017 output. Rotoballer rankings (30th SS) and Arcia’s ADP (361) are in agreement and make Arcia nothing more than a speculation pick in most leagues, particularly given how deep his position will be in 2019.
