Orioles Protect Grayson Rodriguez From Rule 5 Draft
2 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles protected right-handed pitcher Grayson Rodriguez from the Rule 5 draft by adding him to their 40-man roster on Tuesday. The Orioles also added right-handers Noah Denoyer and Seth Johnson, shortstop Joey Ortiz and left-hander Drew Rom to the 40-man roster. Rodriguez is the No. 4 overall prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline, while Johnson is the team's No. 10 prospect. Ortiz comes in at No. 17, while Rom is Baltimore's No. 19 prospect. If it wasn't for a Grade 2 lat sprain, Rodriguez most likely would have made his major-league debut in 2022. The 23-year-old right-hander only threw a combined 75 2/3 innings with High-A Aberdeen, Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk last year, so fantasy managers should expect him to have his workload monitored throughout the year with the Orioles.
