Opt-Out Clause The Sticking Point For Bryan Reynolds Extension
2 years agoAn opt-out clause is the current sticking point in contract-extension negotiations between the Pittsburgh Pirates and outfielder Bryan Reynolds, according to a major-league source. Neither side has broken off talks, which means they could still reach a deal in the next few days. The two sides have found common ground over the last few days, agreeing on a package of around $106 million over eight years, according to a major-league source. Reynolds is also willing to backload the money, which would give the team financial flexibility over the next few years. A no-trade clause is not on the table. In exchange for giving up ground on the money end, the 28-year-old wants the ability to opt out of the contract, but the Bucs have historically been opposed to using opt-outs.
