Atlanta Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham said that new quarterback Tua Tagovailoa knows "he is coming in to compete," with the same being said about Michael Penix Jr. (knee), according to Tori McElhaney of AtlantaFalcons.com. "There are no starters right now," Cunningham added. The problem with Atlanta's QB competition this offseason is that Penix could be rehabbing for the vast majority, if not all, of the offseason after he suffered a torn ACL late in 2025. That could give Tua, who signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with Atlanta, a leg up for the starting job entering the 2026 regular season this fall. The 28-year-old former first-rounder is injury-prone himself, though, and has had two straight disappointing seasons after leading the NFL with 4,624 passing yards in Miami in 2023. Both Tagovailoa and Penix have seen their dynasty stock fall in the past year. For Penix, it's mainly due to his knees; he's had three ACL surgeries now. If Tagaovailoa wins the job, he could be an interesting low-end QB2 with upside in a change of scenery and in an offense with some nice weapons.--Keith Hernandez
