Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Nick Blankenburg has been ruled out for six to eight weeks with a broken ankle. This is very unexpected news, as the 24-year-old rookie came through 22:25 of action in Thursday's win over Philadelphia and even scored a goal in the contest. He had broken his ankle in the middle of the third period but was able to play through the pain. Blankenberg had just returned to the lineup from an upper-body injury. He's been able to get two goals and one assist in seven games this season with 13 blocks and 12 hits. The Blue Jackets also lost Zach Werenski (shoulder) and Erik Gudbranson (upper body) Thursday night, so talk about bad luck. Vladislav Gavrikov and Andrew Peeke are now set to form the team's new top defensive duo.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
